The state transport department in Maharashtra has announced a ₹1 crore initiative to analyze accidents and investigate crashes, following a rise in fatalities and accidents across the state.

A team will be set up to study the causes of accidents, including vehicle speed, road conditions, human error, and geometry of turns.

The proposed unit will include technically qualified officers and experts, who will select fatal accidents and conduct detailed studies.

The analysis will cover the sequence of events, vehicle condition, braking patterns, road design, signalling systems, and more.

Data-driven measures for road safety will be recommended, including identifying black spots, improving road design, erecting speed regulation boards, and conducting driver awareness campaigns.

The state transport department has also launched a campaign to cut fatalities by over 50% by 2030, focusing on two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.
