In a significant development, the Maharashtra State Waqf Tribunal has granted a six-month extension to the state's Waqf Board to upload Waqf property data on the UMEED portal, a digital management system for Waqf properties. The Tribunal, comprising District Judge Adil Khan and Member Mohd Mohiuddin Moied, made the order on Tuesday, citing unresolved technical issues on the portal. The Board had submitted details of 36,000 registered Waqf institutions in Maharashtra, but was only able to upload data for 50,000 out of nearly 75,000 Waqf properties due to technical glitches. The Tribunal's order comes after the deadline for registration expired on December 5. The Board had sought the extension due to repeated communications with the UMEED portal support team, which reportedly failed to resolve the issues. The Tribunal has directed central officials to rectify the technical defects and shortcomings of the UMEED portal within 10 days. The portal will only become operational once it is fully functional and free from glitches. The Tribunal has also restrained authorities from taking adverse action against Waqf institution mutawallis during this period. The Federation of Maharashtra Muslims has welcomed the verdict, urging mutawallis to complete the uploading of Waqf property details once the portal becomes fully functional. The extended deadline is expected to benefit the Waqf institutions in Maharashtra, which have been struggling with the technical issues on the UMEED portal.
