West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to enroll outsiders as voters ahead of the state assembly polls.

Banerjee wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) alleging that BJP agents submitted a large number of Form 6 applications for voter enrollment across districts.

She claimed that these applications may pertain to individuals who are not genuine residents of Bengal and have no legitimate connection to the state.

The BJP has responded by accusing Banerjee of making inflammatory and intimidatory speeches at election rallies, and has asked for her to be barred from campaigning.

The party has also urged the poll panel to deploy additional central forces in the state and more officers from outside the state as observers.
