West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the BJP of trying to invalidate her candidature from the Bhabanipur seat in south Kolkata by attempting to file false cases against her. She claimed that the BJP, with the help of the Election Commission, tried to delete the names of 90 lakh voters from the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Banerjee alleged that the BJP was plotting to forcefully capture votes through fraudulent means and was also planning to tinker with EVMs to turn the results in their favour.
She also criticized the BJP's promise to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in West Bengal, saying it would be directed against backward communities and aimed at taking away the democratic rights of the people.
Banerjee said that more than 250 people have died due to the SIR exercise, with 60 lakh Hindus and 30 lakh Muslims being deleted from the voters' list.
