West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination from Kolkata's Bhabanipur on Wednesday, vowing to challenge the electoral roll freeze in the Supreme Court.
Banerjee expressed disappointment over the deletion of several voters, stating that 3.2 million out of six million doubtful cases under adjudication were included in the voter list after she moved the Supreme Court.
She questioned the purpose of including these voters after the April 23-29 elections, as they would not be able to cast their votes.
Banerjee also criticized the Election Commission of India for unfairly targeting the state and 'bulldozing' its citizens.
She pointed out that around 44,000 voters were deleted from Bhabanipur, and another 2,342 names were dropped after hearings.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Suvendu Adhikari against Banerjee in Bhabanipur, who once was a confidante of Banerjee but joined the BJP in December 2020 and defeated her in Nandigram in 2021.
