Imphal, Manipur - Following the recovery of six bodies in Kangpokpi district, Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh has vowed that the state government will not remain a mute spectator to atrocities.
The bodies are believed to be of six Naga community members who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13.
After nearly 24 hours of search operations involving 450 personnel, the mortal remains were recovered on Wednesday afternoon.
The government has condemned the brutal act and vowed to arrest and punish the culprits as per law.
The investigation has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency.
Protests erupted in Imphal after the bodies were brought to JNIMS mortuary, with security forces resorting to tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The United Naga Council has condemned the killings and demanded the declaration of Kuki National Front-President Group as a terrorist organization.
