The Manipur government has extended the suspension of mobile internet and data services in five districts for two more days.

The move comes after two people were killed and 29 others injured in security forces firing at a mob in Bishnupur.

Protests have been held across five districts, resulting in three more civilian deaths.

The state government cited the need to prevent the spread of disinformation and maintain public order.

Mobile internet services were initially suspended for three days, with broadband services conditionally restored on Wednesday.

The ethnic violence in Manipur has claimed at least 260 lives and displaced around 60,000 people since May 2023.
