Muppala Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapathy, the most-wanted Maoist leader, may surrender to Telangana Police in a few days, sources said. The 77-year-old leader has been hiding in Nepal for two years due to health issues.
According to a senior police officer, Ganapathy was brought to New Delhi and kept under protection. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the possible surrender, citing the recent surrender of top Maoist leaders.
Ganapathy's younger brother Ramchandra Rao appealed to him to surrender, urging state governments to withdraw cases if he rejoins mainstream society. With 26 days left to end Left Wing Extremism, the Centre's deadline, Ganapathy's family and villagers eagerly await his return.
