Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the 213 km Delhi-Dehradun economic corridor, which will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities from over six hours to around two and a half hours.

The six-lane access-controlled corridor, built at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore, will create employment and boost tourism in cities such as Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Mussoorie, and facilitate travel to the Char Dham pilgrimage sites.

Modi said India's model of development is being recognised globally, and infrastructure spending on connectivity has increased significantly, from ₹2 lakh crore in 2014 to ₹12 lakh crore.

The economic corridor is equipped with an advanced traffic management system to improve safety and travel efficiency, and will save time, fuel, and travel costs.
