Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focused on bringing prosperity, self-reliance, and global recognition to Assam in the coming years.
Addressing an election rally at Barpeta, the Prime Minister said the past 10 years of BJP rule in Assam were to bring peace and harmony, take the state out of difficulties and insecurity, and safeguard the state's identity.
He compared the BJP's performance over the last 10 years to the previous Congress rule, targeting the opposition party over MSP, illegal immigration, the condition of tribals, and insurgency in the poll-bound state.
Modi said the minimum support price (MSP) of rice has increased from ₹1,300 per quintal during Congress rule to ₹2,370 during BJP rule.
He also mentioned how farmers in Assam have received more than ₹7,500 crore under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and how the government has provided urea to farmers at a subsidised rate of ₹300 despite global rates reaching ₹3,000 per sack.
The Prime Minister accused Congress of promoting the enemy's agenda during surgical strikes and air-strikes and of encouraging illegal immigrants to enter Assam.
Modi urged voters to be careful of Congress' open support for illegal immigrants and its plan to bring in a legislation that would make it a crime to call someone an infiltrator.
