A 42-year-old man's body was discovered at his home in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, five days after his death, with his 64-year-old mother still by his side, praying for his revival.
Police were alerted by a milkman who reported a foul odour and seeping blood, leading to the discovery of the body.
The deceased man worked for a fashion designer company in Mumbai and had been living with his mother in Vidisha for the past year.
His mother, a retired teacher, was described as depressed and never spoke to anyone in the locality.
She initially refused to allow police to touch the body, but it was eventually seized after a struggle.
The woman has been under observation, and a statement is being registered in the presence of a counsellor to determine the cause of death.
