Treeza Chauhan received a video call from her sister Merina, who was aboard a boat on Bargi Dam reservoir, 35km from Jabalpur. The next call came at 6.07pm, with Merina hysterical and shouting that they were drowning.
The Narmada Queen boat, carrying around 43 people, capsized at approximately 6.13pm. Merina, her mother Madhu, and her son Trishan did not survive.
Rescuers found Merina and Trishan together, locked in an embrace, inside the same life-jacket. Pradeep, Merina's husband, said he lost everything in the tragedy.
Siya, Merina's daughter, said she saw her mother and brother alive before they drowned. The family of six had left Delhi to attend a housewarming in Jabalpur and decided to take the boat ride before returning home.
