An influx of Myanmar refugees has been reported in the Indian state of Mizoram after a bombing in the Khawpuichhip village in Myanmar killed seven people, including six children.
The bombing, allegedly carried out by the Myanmar military air force, created panic among villagers, with over 50 refugees crossing into the Indian village of Zokhawthar on Friday night.
Jacob V Zawma, a spokesperson for the civilian government of the Chinland Council of Myanmar's Chin state, confirmed the deaths and destruction of at least 15 to 20 buildings.
The motive behind the bombing is believed to be the Myanmar junta's attempt to take back control of the Chin state, which shares over 500 kilometres of international boundary with India.
The Chin Human Rights Organisation reported that the military often targets non-military sites like schools and religious sites in an attempt to demoralise the resistance and the general population of Chin state.
