A Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft crashed in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, confirmed by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday.
The crash occurred 60 kilometers away from Jorhat, where the jet took off from on Thursday evening.
Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar, the two pilots on board, were killed in the crash, the IAF confirmed.
The jet was on a training mission and lost contact with ground control at 7:42 pm, prompting a search and rescue operation.
Locals in Karbi Anglong reported a loud explosion following the crash, with one local claiming to have seen the plane coming down.
