Nitish Kumar, the leader of the JDU and Bihar chief minister, took his oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on April 10, nearly a month after being elected to the Upper House on March 16.

Although he has not yet resigned as Bihar CM, his oath in the Rajya Sabha paves the way for a new face to assume the role.

Nitish can continue as Bihar CM for up to six months despite being elected to the Rajya Sabha, but he must resign as an MLC within 14 days of being elected as an MP, which he did on March 30.

A high-level meeting of BJP leaders is taking place in Delhi to finalise the roadmap for the new state leadership.

Nitish is likely to resign as CM within two to four days after returning to Patna from Delhi following discussions and deliberations.

The process of selecting the new chief minister will follow NDA legislative procedures.

Nitish Kumar is Bihar's longest-serving CM, having begun his political journey as an MLA in 1985 and later serving as a Union Minister under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
