Congress lawmaker and senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi has stated that the success or defeat of no-confidence motions against constitutional functionaries is irrelevant. He emphasized that the motions serve to highlight important issues and put constitutional authorities on guard.
Singhvi cited the recent Rajya Sabha polls, where some Congress MLAs allegedly helped the NDA win, and the BJP's misuse of money and resources. He noted that the BJP has a consistent pattern of using monetary inducements to influence elections in various states.
The Opposition has been moving no-confidence motions against constitutional functionaries, including the Chief Election Commissioner. Singhvi stated that these motions are a legitimate technique to expose the government's actions and hold them accountable.
He also addressed the issue of SIR or vote chori, stating that the problem is much deeper and older than the recent Bihar SIR. Singhvi emphasized that the Opposition has a better record of parliamentary opposition compared to the BJP when it was in opposition.
Regarding the women reservation bill, Singhvi expressed that the government's proposal to amend it for faster implementation is too late. He stated that the current law makes implementation possible in 2032, rendering the announcement two years ago meaningless.
