Factory workers in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, took to the streets demanding a wage hike, a long-pending demand of the labourers. The protests turned violent, with vehicles torched, property vandalised, and stone pelting reported.
Workers claimed that they should be earning ₹20,000 for an 8-hour workday, but some companies offer a mere ₹280 or ₹300 increment. The protests paralysed traffic, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
Noida police officials ensured adequate police deployment, and a heavy police force was rushed to the affected areas to bring the situation under control.
The Delhi Police issued a traffic advisory, stating that traffic in Noida was severely affected due to the ongoing agitation. However, the Chilla border was later reopened for traffic.
