Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma expressed his anger over recent incidents of racial attacks and bullying on people from Northeast India in the mainland.
The recent assault of a woman from Manipur in Delhi after she objected to harassment sparked outrage, with Sangma calling it 'sickening' and urging authorities to take stringent action.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening near Delhi's Saket court, where a group of men allegedly commented on the women, leading to an argument and assault.
The police have reached the spot and are taking further action based on the victim's statement.
This is not an isolated incident, with a similar case reported in February, where three women from the northeast were subjected to racial abuse in Delhi's Malviya Nagar.
Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta had reacted to the previous incident, saying that Delhi 'belongs to everyone' and that such harassment 'will not be tolerated'.
