New Delhi: The Indian government has facilitated the exit of over 1,150 nationals from Iran through land border crossings in Armenia and Azerbaijan since the start of the West Asia conflict a month ago.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), 1,171 Indian nationals, including 818 students, have been helped to leave Iran via the land borders into Armenia and Azerbaijan.
From there, Indian nationals have been flying back to India, with 977 crossing over from Iran into Armenia and 194 into Azerbaijan.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the embassy in Tehran has been facilitating the movement of Indian nationals to exit Iran.
Additionally, three Indian nationals were injured in attacks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday, with one being discharged after receiving medical treatment.
So far, eight Indian nationals have died in the conflict in West Asia, including an Indian who was killed in Kuwait in an Iranian strike on a power and water desalination plant.
The Indian government has ramped up its diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety and security of 10 million Indian nationals living in West Asia.
