All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has asked voters, particularly Muslims, to back the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in the upcoming Assam assembly polls.
Owaisi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress of not wanting Muslims to have their own leadership in the state.
He claimed that over 50,000 Muslim homes have been demolished in recent years, leaving families homeless, and that the Congress stood with the BJP on its treatment of minorities.
Owaisi also referred to Himanta Biswa Sarma's earlier remarks on the Miya Muslim community, which he said were contributing to greater consolidation among Muslims.
The Assam Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4.
