Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh - A daring attempt to abduct Padma Shri awardee social worker Phoolbasan Bai Yadav was foiled on Tuesday morning in Rajnandgaon district. Three persons, including two women, were detained by the police after Yadav was rescued.

According to officials, Khushbu Sahu, a native of Bemetara, visited Yadav at her Sukuldaihan village and allegedly told her that a differently-abled woman wanted to take a selfie with her. However, when Yadav walked out and got in the car, it sped away.

A traffic police team conducting routine vehicle checking stopped the car near Chikhli police outpost, and the accused told the policemen that the woman was an epilepsy patient. However, one of the personnel recognised Yadav and rescued her.

The three accused were taken to Sukuldaihan police outpost and were being questioned. Preliminary investigation suggests that Sahu, the main accused, is associated with a self-help group and had been in contact with Yadav for the past four months.

Phoolbasan Bai Yadav received the Padma Shri in 2012 for her work in the SHG movement, which has a network of nearly two lakh women engaged in social service and empowerment initiatives.
