The Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted a major interstate terror network, arresting five people, including a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative who had been on the run for 16 years.

Abdullah alias Abu Hureira, a Pakistani terrorist, had entered India 16 years ago and managed to set up bases outside the union territory.

Among those arrested was another Pakistani terrorist, Usman alias Khubaib, and three Srinagar residents who provided logistical support to the terrorists.

The probe involved investigators carrying out searches in 19 locations, in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Haryana, and revealed a deep-rooted network providing hideouts and financial support to LeT terrorists.

Inciting material, including AK-47 rifles, pistols, hand grenades, electronic equipment and gadgets, were seized from several hideouts connected to the terror network.

The Jammu and Kashmir director general of police Nalin Prabhat was personally overseeing the operations, and more arrests might be carried out as the probe looks into additional associates, financiers, facilitators, safe houses and inter-state linkages.
