A woman's table, a poet's inspiration. As we celebrate Global Poetry Writing Month, Sonya Dutta Choudhury shares her journey of rediscovering the power of poetry. From reading aloud a poem a day to writing her own, she finds solace in the words of Kate Clanchy's How to Grow Your Own Poem. With the help of Turkish poet Edip Cansever's The Table, she finds a way to hold her own experiences and create something beautiful.

Choudhury's love for poetry is rekindled as she reads about unlikely heroes in faraway lands, and the music in words. She shares three things she's doing this April: reading aloud a poem a day, writing her own poem each day, and immersing herself in the world of poets.

As she looks back at her grandparents' cedar table, she realizes how poems capture all our lives and make our private worlds feel shared. What are you piling onto your table today? Can writing or reading a poem help your table stand a little firmer?
