Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the recent achievement of India's 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, calling it a 'historic milestone' for the country's civil nuclear programme.

The reactor, built using indigenous technology, has achieved first criticality, marking the start of a controlled fission chain reaction in the reactor core.

Modi also spoke about the SHANTI Bill, 2025, which aims to overhaul India's nuclear energy laws and open up nuclear power to private and foreign participation.

Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted the preparations for the digital Census 2027, which will allow citizens to self-enumerate using an app before enumerators visit households.

India has also made significant strides in renewable energy, with its installed wind power capacity crossing 56 gigawatts, ranking the country fourth globally in wind energy capacity.

Modi concluded by recalling historical and cultural milestones, including the upcoming birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, while urging citizens to participate actively in national initiatives like the census.
