Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the 12th International Yoga Day celebration at Kolkata's Red Road, emphasizing that yoga connects the world to India and brings people together.
Modi, accompanied by governor RN Ravi, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, and other dignitaries, attended a mega event with thousands of open-air yoga sessions across the eastern state.
He highlighted the importance of yoga in maintaining a healthy life, saying it can keep people healthy even as they age and help human life aspire for growth.
Modi also emphasized the need to make yoga a part of daily life, rather than just a one-day event, and introduced the Yoga 365 programme, which has seen participation from people in 130 nations.
The celebration marked the first time International Yoga Day was celebrated on such a large scale in Bengal, with over 10 million people taking part.
