The Supreme Court was informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally overseeing the NEET-UG cancellation probe following a paper leak.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta made the submission after the apex court sought a response from the government in an affidavit detailing the process and conclusion of the leak probe.
During the hearing, Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha questioned the Centre about the monitoring of implementation and the reason behind the leak, citing the example of UPSC in conducting examinations.
The court expressed concern for the students and their families, who invest a lot of emotion and time in the exam.
The Centre assured the court that new mechanisms have been put in place for the NEET-UG exam scheduled on June 21.
The matter has been posted for hearing in the second week of July.
