Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged women across India to seek blessings for the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in the upcoming Parliament sitting. The bill aims to increase women's participation in legislative bodies.
Modi said that democracy will become stronger and more vibrant if the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and various Assembly elections are held with women's reservation fully in place.
The Women's Reservation Act, passed in 2023, provides for the reservation of one-third of seats for women in Lok Sabha and state legislative Assemblies.
However, to implement it from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, changes are needed in the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which the government is seeking to pass through special sittings of Parliament.
Modi has urged women to write to their local MPs and encourage them to participate in this historic Parliament sitting.
