At least 10 people from Punjab have died after a boat carrying 30 tourists capsized in the Yamuna River in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh.
The incident occurred near Keshi Ghat in Mathura district on Friday at around 3 pm, when the boat, hired by a group from Ludhiana, collided with a pontoon bridge and lost balance.
Rescue operations were launched immediately, and more than 15 people were saved, but 10 met with death due to drowning.
Teams of NDRF, SDRF, and local army units have been deployed to assist in the rescue operation, and divers have been deployed to search for those reported missing.
The rescued have been sent to Ram Krishna Mission Hospital in Vrindavan, while other hospitals have been placed on alert.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the deaths and directed officials to ensure the best possible treatment for those rescued and to expedite relief and rescue operations.
