Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the 256-year-old Bum-Rukh-ud-Dowla lake in Hyderabad, restored by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
The lake, built in 1770 during the Nizam era, was restored after a drive to clear encroachments and rejuvenate the waterbody.
The restoration included de-silting the lake bed, strengthening the bund, improving water inlets and outlets, and developing landscaped surroundings.
The revived lake will serve as a crucial flood-mitigation structure, channeling rainwater from nearby areas and reducing flood risks in surrounding localities.
The Chief Minister proposed developing 'night economy hubs' near such lakes, allocating shops exclusively to women's self-help groups (SHGs) to create safe public spaces and generate livelihood opportunities for women.
