A 36-year-old man was hacked to death by a group of 7-8 people in Rajasthan's Banswara over a long-time rivalry, sparking a clash between two groups that resulted in arson and stone-throwing.

The victim, Govind Chhagan, belonged to the Mahida tribal community and was attacked with an axe when he and some members of a Katara family were returning home after appearing in court.

Tensions escalated when the Mahidas gathered and attacked the Katara community, setting 23 houses on fire and throwing stones at each other.

Police used force to disperse the mob and evacuated all residents, but the situation remained tense with people from both communities staging a sit-in at the local police station.

A special team has been formed to nab the suspects in Chhagan's murder, and police are searching for the relatives of the suspects who left the village after the murder.
