Former RJD women's wing state president Ritu Jaiswal joined the BJP in Patna, Bihar, on Tuesday, citing her desire for simplicity in politics. She was denied a ticket from her preferred seat in last year's Bihar assembly elections and later contested as an Independent candidate.

Jaiswal, who served as the state president of the RJD women's wing and national spokesperson, expressed her disappointment with the RJD's decision to nominate Smita Purve Gupta, the daughter-in-law of former party president Ramchandra Purve, from her constituency.

She was expelled from the RJD in October last year for "anti-party" activities during the elections. Jaiswal's husband, Arun Kumar, a former civil servant, also left government service and became the Mukhiya of Singhwahini Panchayat in Sitamarhi.

After joining the BJP, Jaiswal stated that politics should be a means of service, responsibility, and ideology, not display, and expressed her admiration for the Prime Minister's emphasis on conserving energy and fuel.
