The Supreme Court expressed shock after learning that currency notes seized in a corruption case were destroyed by rodents in Bihar.

A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and K V Viswanathan termed the destruction a 'huge revenue loss' for the State and wondered how many such notes are destroyed due to improper storage.

The issue arose during a plea hearing for a woman convicted of corruption who was granted bail by the top court.

The court noted that the explanation for the destruction of the notes does not inspire confidence and will look into the matter further.
