Thiruvananthapuram, India - In a bid to prevent rising train accidents, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has issued a public safety advisory urging passengers to avoid footboard travel and other unsafe practices while traveling by train.

A total of 37 cases of passengers falling from trains have been reported in the Thiruvananthapuram division in 2026, resulting in grievous injuries and loss of life.

The RPF has expressed concern over the continued tendency of passengers to engage in unsafe travel practices despite repeated warnings and awareness campaigns.

To prevent such incidents, the RPF has advised passengers to avoid traveling on footboards, move inside the coach after boarding, refrain from boarding or alighting from moving trains, and avoid leaning outside train doors and entrances.

RPF personnel are conducting regular awareness drives, making station announcements, counselling passengers, and intensifying monitoring at vulnerable stations and onboard trains to prevent such incidents.
