A Russian oil-laden tanker has made a dramatic U-turn in the South China Sea, heading to India after New Delhi doubled down on imports from Moscow.
The Aqua Titan is set to arrive in New Mangalore on March 21 with its Urals cargo, which it loaded from a Baltic Sea port in late January.
At least seven tankers carrying Russian oil have switched their destinations mid-voyage from China to India, according to Vortexa Ltd.
India's major refiners are now in the market for Russian crude, following a 30 million barrel purchase in the week after the US gave the green light for increased Russian imports.
The return of buyers, including Japan and South Korea, is likely to push prices higher.
