Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has demanded that her death sentence be set aside by a Bangladeshi tribunal, citing unlawful conduct of proceedings and a lack of judicial independence.
The demands were made in a letter to the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka, following her conviction for crimes against humanity during the crackdown on student-led protests in 2024.
Hasina, who has lived in self-exile in India since the fall of her government, also sought a fair trial in compliance with international standards, including proper notification, disclosure of evidence, and the opportunity to participate in her defence.
The letter, dated March 30, listed several reasons for opposing her conviction, including prosecutorial bias and a denial of due process and fair trial rights.
India has not yet responded to several requests from Bangladesh for Hasina's extradition.
