Kerala has witnessed a tragic rise in snakebite fatalities, with the toll now standing at seven. Two elderly women, Nafeesa and Vishalakshi, lost their lives due to snakebites in Kannur and Idukki districts respectively.
Nafeesa, a 75-year-old woman from Muthkuda near Thaliparamba, was bitten by a venomous snake at her house on Friday. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning. Doctors suspect that she was bitten by a common krait.
Vishalakshi, a 75-year-old woman from Kanjar in Idukki district, died after being bitten by a snake near her house on Sunday afternoon. She was working outside her house when the incident occurred.
With these two new deaths, the number of snakebite fatalities in Kerala has risen to seven. Several others are undergoing treatment in hospitals following snakebites. Experts have warned that snakes may venture into houses in search of shade, cooler environments, and rodents due to soaring temperatures.
