Chandigarh: In a late-night operation, the Haryana Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) busted an alleged racket involving spurious Mounjaro KwikPen injections, arresting two persons after intercepting a vehicle in Gurugram.
The FDA officials acted following a tip-off about the illegal sale and stocking of Mounjaro injections in multiple strengths. A team led by Drugs Control Officer (DCO) Amandeep Chauhan laid a trap near the HUDA City Centre Metro Station and intercepted a car suspected to be carrying the consignment.
The occupants, Shahbaz Alam Ansari and Mujammil Khan, were questioned, and Khan revealed that the stock belonged to Avi Sharma, a resident of Gurugram. Sharma was contacted and arrested for violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
The seized stock included multiple batches of Mounjaro KwikPen across all six strengths, with an estimated value of ₹56.15 lakh. Preliminary verification revealed discrepancies in the labels, indicating that the recovered stock is spurious and not manufactured by the original company.
Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain, identify possible buyers, and determine the extent of distribution of the suspected counterfeit injections.
