The Supreme Court has granted bail to Muppidi Avinash Reddy, a key figure in the ₹3,200-crore Andhra Pradesh liquor policy case. Reddy, a relative of the main accused Kasireddy Rajashekhar Reddy, had been under custodial interrogation but was granted bail after the court noted that several co-accused had already been granted bail.
The court, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, passed the order after considering the arguments of senior advocates Siddharth Dave and Siddharth Luthra. Reddy had moved the court against the rejection of his anticipatory bail by the Andhra Pradesh high court.
The case dates back to between October 2019 and March 2024, and the allegation is that the excise policy was manipulated to benefit certain companies linked to leaders of the YSR Congress Party. The CID had registered an FIR on September 23, 2024, under charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy.
