The Supreme Court has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe into the Malda mob violence incident where seven judicial officers were held hostage for eight hours.
The court took suo motu cognisance of the April 1 violence and has identified 12 instances where judicial officers faced coercion or roadblock in performing their duties.
The NIA will take over the FIRs and investigate the case, with the state police's probe being put on hold.
The court also expressed concern over the state chief secretary's unavailability and lack of cooperation with the high court chief justice during the incident.
The state has been directed to hand over the case files and extend full cooperation to the NIA team.
The court has also permitted the NIA to interrogate two alleged kingpins in police custody and file fresh status reports.
