The Supreme Court has called the handling of a 4-year-old girl's rape case in Gurugram an 'eye-opener for the whole country.'

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi directed the trial court not to decide the bail plea of the accused for another two weeks, allowing a special investigation team (SIT) to complete its probe.

The SIT, comprising senior women IPS officers, is probing the alleged sexual assault and has been directed to maintain utmost sensitivity while interacting with the child witness.

The court also directed the director of AIIMS to spare a child psychologist or counsellor to be present when the SIT meets the victim.
