The Supreme Court has dismissed the plea of former IAS officer Anil Tuteja, who sought a blanket order against registration of fresh cases against him.
The court allowed Tuteja to approach the Chhattisgarh high court for anticipatory bail in cases where he apprehends arrest.
Tuteja faces probe in multiple cases, including the ₹2000 crore liquor scam, and has been incarcerated for 20 months after the top court set aside his bail in the liquor scam case.
The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said that Tuteja's argument was 'emotive' but not legally sound, and that the court cannot enforce his arrest when the agency is not willing to do so.
The court requested the high court to decide on Tuteja's plea within 2-4 weeks of it being filed.
