A nine-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court has ruled that its verdict on the definition of 'industry' will apply to existing cases under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
The bench is hearing submissions on the contentious issue of defining the word 'industry' under the 1947 Act.
Senior advocate Indira Jaising argued that the 1947 Act provided security of tenure to workmen and access to justice in relation to victimisation and malafide termination.
The court will continue to hear the matter on Thursday.
