The Supreme Court has summoned the Gurugram police commissioner over the insensitive handling of a minor's rape case, expressing shock at the police's actions.

A bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi directed the police commissioner to appear before it on March 25 with the complete record of the investigation.

The court was disturbed by the manner in which the child's statement was recorded, with the police allegedly asking the parents 'what do you want?' and physically presenting the accused before the child for identification.

The court also indicated that it may constitute a special investigation team (SIT) comprising senior women police officers and consider transferring the trial to another judge.

The case involves two housemaids and their male associates accused of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl at a condominium in Gurugram.
