Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has condemned recent attacks on minority communities, calling it a disturbing message to the nation. Stalin, DMK president, made the statement on X, highlighting the importance of ensuring minorities live without fear, even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi participates in Christmas celebrations. The statement comes amidst the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, where Christian voters are a crucial demographic. Stalin's remarks were echoed by other parties, including MDMK general secretary Vaiko and actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), who condemned the alleged attacks on Christian places of worship. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit back at Stalin, accusing him of disrespecting the rights and beliefs of the majority. BJP leader Vinoj P Selvam questioned Stalin's decision to refuse the lighting of a lamp at Thiruparankundram, citing a High Court order. Selvam emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of the majority and fulfilling their duties. Recent reports of attacks on minorities in Jabalpur, Raipur, and Manipur have raised concerns about harmony in the country. A 74% rise in hate speech against minorities since the BJP government took office is a disturbing trend. Stalin has called for a shared and urgent duty to curb riotous groups that divide society.
