Years of Dravidian rule in Tamil Nadu suffered a big shock on Monday as actor-politician Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged victorious, registering a win on over 100 seats.
While the outcome was nothing short of spectacular, the party didn't manage to secure an absolute majority, falling just short of the 118 mark.
This has cast a shadow on Tamil Nadu's political future and on TVK's next steps, possibly an alliance.
Of the 234-seat Assembly, TVK won 108, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) 59, and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won 47.
Among some notable seats was Tiruchirapalli (East) and Perambur, both of which Vijay won. Besides, chief minister MK Stalin lost from the Kolathur seat.
