The Tamil Nadu assembly elections 2026 results have thrown a surprise for many as actor-turned-politician Vijay is poised to become the state's next chief minister.
Vijay's Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is leading or has won 130 seats in the 234 member assembly.
The incumbent DMK alliance has 42 leads and wins, while the NDA, comprising of AIADMK and the BJP among others, has managed 56 wins and leads.
Vijay will become the first non-DMK non-AIADMK Tamil Nadu chief minister since 1967.
His path to victory went through a host of welfare promises.
The incumbent-DMK was contesting on the plank of state autonomy, the anti-delimitation drive, apart from positioning CM MK Stalin as the only one standing up against delimitation exercise.
The AIADMK attacked the DMK for the alleged corruption, while the incumbent hit back, calling the opposition party "slaves of the BJP".
Both had largely dismissed TVK as a serious threat.
