The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh has issued a show-cause notice to its Lok Sabha member, Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav, after he was allegedly caught consuming drugs in Hyderabad.
State TDP president Palla Srinivasa Rao stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had directed him to issue the notice, seeking an explanation from the MP.
The party has asked Yadav to submit a written explanation within 48 hours, addressing the allegations that have surfaced in the public domain.
Rao indicated that failure to furnish a satisfactory response may invite further action in accordance with the party's organisational rules and disciplinary framework.
Meanwhile, Yadav has denied all allegations against him, releasing a video message on social media, claiming that he had no bad habits and had committed no wrongdoing.
However, the remand report submitted by the Moinabad police before the local court on Monday indicated that Yadav had indeed consumed drugs and tested positive.
The opposition YSR Congress party has demanded that the TDP MP immediately resign from his Lok Sabha membership.
