Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has unveiled a ₹7,000 crore plan to revamp the Musi Riverfront in Hyderabad, aiming to transform the city's riverfront, improve environmental conditions, and position Hyderabad as a global metropolitan centre.
The project, which has been in the making for several years, aims to unlock the potential of a 55-kilometre-long river corridor in Hyderabad, providing a clean and green environment to the people while focussing on economic development.
The project includes major flood mitigation and infrastructure works, such as river cleaning, riverbed profiling, construction of flood mitigation walls, development of roads along both riverbanks, and installation of trunk sewer mains and stormwater drains.
A major parallel infrastructure project by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) will support the Musi rejuvenation plan, proposing a 20 TMC water augmentation system and extensive sewerage infrastructure along the Osmansagar–Himayatsagar stretch up to Gandhi Sarovar.
The development plan also proposes new connectivity infrastructure, including vehicular, multimodal, and pedestrian bridges, with a total of 14 bridges planned along the corridor. Additionally, three barrages will be constructed for water retention.
