Over 6,000 buses belonging to Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) have gone off the roads across the state following a call by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of TSRTC employees' unions. The strike is in pursuance of their long-pending demands, including the merger of TSRTC with the state transport department, payment of salaries and allowances on par with government employees, and implementation of pending Pay Revision Commissions (PRC).

The state government has formed a high-level officials' committee to examine the issues raised by TSRTC employees and submit its recommendations within four weeks. The committee will be headed by the special chief secretary (transport) and will include senior officials from the Labour and Finance departments, as well as the vice-chairman and managing director of TSRTC.

State transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the move aims to resolve the ongoing RTC workers' strike while ensuring minimal inconvenience to the public. He assured that the government was committed to protecting the RTC organisation, safeguarding workers' welfare, and ensuring uninterrupted services.

JAC leaders, however, have urged the government to intervene immediately, alleging that the process of merging RTC with the government has not even begun and that the committee was formed only to delay the process.
