The Telangana state assembly's winter session, scheduled to commence on December 29, will be marked by heated discussions on irrigation projects along the Krishna and Godavari rivers. According to sources, the sessions will cover topics such as inter-state water allocations, project expenditure, and the state's irrigation policies. The decision to hold the winter session was made at an informal cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad on Monday night. A three-day recess will be observed on New Year's Day, with the session resuming on January 2. The Congress government is set to present records of irrigation projects and expenditure incurred since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. This move comes after BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao announced plans to launch a statewide agitation against the alleged neglect of the irrigation sector. State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused the previous BRS government of misusing ₹27,000 crore on the Palamuru-Rangareddy project without providing irrigation water to a single acre. He also claimed that the project lacked statutory approvals and that the Centre had rejected its detailed project report in 2023. Meanwhile, senior BRS MLA and former Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has welcomed the government's proposal to present a PowerPoint presentation on irrigation. He urged the government to allow the BRS to present its case in the assembly and accused the Congress government of stifling opposition voices.
